In close distance to the archaeological site of Merv is Mary Regional Museum. The white-marble palace building houses many of the antiquities discovered or excavated from the site along with a large unique collection of Turkmen jewellery, carpets, decorated yurts, and various form of artworks. This makes it the best museum outside of Ashgabat, the capital city.

With over 500,000 antique and valuable items on display, the national museum of Turkmenistan is arguably one of the important and profound museums in entire Central Asia. The exhibits include art, paintings, fabrics, ancient utensils, weapons, jewellery, and rare geological finds.

·        6. Independence Monument



The monument which is built on an area covering 80,000 sq meters is one of its kind extravagant structures. With the constant renovation, this place has transformed into a public landscaped park with numerous green space and fountains. In the middle of the area, there is a towering minaret plated with gold and white which is surrounded by 27 statues of Turkmen soldiers.

·        7Turkmen Carpet Museum


Located in the capital city where a number of museums are located, the Carpet Museum stands out. With more than 2,000 ancient rugs which is inclusive of a stunning wine coloured carpet with a size of 300 sq m, the museum is a Guinness World Record holder. The rugs and other exhibits are constantly renovated at the museum.
